Baseball earns road win over Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team earned a 7-3 decision over Schreiner University on Tuesday afternoon. This win improves the Cru's record to 13-5 on the season, while the Mountaineers fall to 6-11.

After five scoreless innings, the Mountaineers got on the board first in the bottom of the sixth with two runs on two hits. The Cru responded in the next frame when Austin Birkhoff drew a four-pitch walk, advancing on a Tyler Martin single. Birkhoff then scored on a Schreiner error to cut the Mountaineers' lead in half.

Schreiner added one more in the seventh, but UMHB answered in the top of the eighth after free bases for Taylor McDaniel and Jacob Newland resulted in two runs off a Birkhoff double, giving the Cru a 4-3 lead. Cameron Talburt extended the lead with an RBI double, later scoring on a single from Easton Cline to move the score to 6-3. The Cru added one more in the ninth when Nolan Williams opened with a double to center, scoring on a Jasson Hemmerling single, securing UMHB's 7-3 victory.

Easton Cline went three for four with an RBI and a stolen base. Tyler Martin also tallied three hits in four at-bats with a double and stolen base, while Austin Birkhoff went two for three with two runs scored and an RBI.

Cole Morkovsky opened the game on the mound, throwing six complete innings with three strikeouts. Ryland Anders earned the win for the Cru giving up just one hit.
