BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept a Tuesday doubleheader over Huston Tillotson University Tuesday at Dee Dillon Field. The win improved the Cru to 9-9 on the season.
Chloe Booth opened the game with a perfect frame in the first inning before UMHB scored two, plating
Shorey Nguyen on a sacrifice fly and
Addy Todd on an error. Booth threw another perfect frame in the second and UMHB's offense answered again, scoring five runs.
Angelina Rodriguez scored on an RBI from Nugyen before
Addy Todd hit in
Vic Shimabukuro and
Bralyn Belk on an RBI single to left field. Nguyen and Todd scored next, reaching off a double from
Ava Perlinger putting the Cru ahead by seven.
The Cru added two more runs on RBI from Shimabukuro and Nguyen before
Addy Todd hit a grand slam, extending the Cru's lead to 13. The Rams put two base runners on in the ninth but Booth got out of it, sealing the shutout for the Cru.
Addy Todd led the Cru with two hits while six other Crusaders each added one. Todd also led the Cru with six RBI while Nguyen and Perlinger added two each.
Chloe Booth earned the win in the circle, throwing seven shutout innings with just two hits allowed. UMHB totaled 13 runs on eight hits with no errors while the Rams had two hits with three errors.
Alli Dafoe opened the game with a perfect frame and UMHB took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the inning off an RBI double from
Bralyn Belk. Belk hit in Shimabukuro with another double and then scored on a single from
Riley Marek for a 3-0 lead. The Rams added one run in the top of the fourth to cut the gap to two. UMHB put runners on in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings but wasn't able to bring anyone around.
Madelyn Denn pitched the final inning for the Cru, forcing three groundouts back to the pitcher to seal the 3-1 win.
Bralyn Belk and
Vic Shimabukuro both added two hits while Belk had two RBI. Dafoe threw six innings, giving up just four hits and one run while Denn threw the final three outs.
UMHB returns to action on Monday, March 16
th in a 3 p.m. doubleheader against St. Olaf College at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
