BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team dropped a 6-3 decision to Concordia University Texas Friday night in Belton. The loss dropped the Cru to 17-8 on the season while the Tornados improved to 18-10.
Alex Hill opened the game with a perfect first inning on the mound before
Cameron Talburt scored on an error for a 1-0 UMHB lead. Hill threw another perfect frame in the second and got out of a jam in the third to keep the one-run lead.
The Tornados earned the high ground in the fourth, scoring one run off an RBI single and three more off a Logan Smith home run. UMHB put a runner on in the fourth but the Tornado lead held until the seventh when CTX added another run in the top of the seventh for a four-run margin. The Tornados hit another home run in the top of the ninth but
Nolan Williams responded for the Cru, slamming a two-RBI home run over the left field wall for a 6-3 score. The Tornados struck out the next batter, sealing the 6-3 win.
Cameron Talburt and
Nolan Williams led the Cru with two hits each while three Crusaders added one run each.
Alex Hill opened with five innings on the mound, throwing five strikeouts with four runs allowed.
Jacob Haynes,
Michael Doucet and
Preston Blake all pitched in relief, throwing a combined four innings with two hits and two runs allowed.
UMHB returns to action in a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Concordia University Texas on Friday, April 3
rd in Austin.
