ABILENE, Texas — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team dropped a 7-6 decision to Hardin-Simmons Thursday evening. The Cru's record moved to 23-14 on the season with a 4-5 mark in conference action, while the Cowboys improved to 22-13 (5-4).
After three scoreless innings, HSU found its way on the board with a three-run fourth inning. UMHB responded quickly, getting two back in the top of the fifth. Tyler Martin and Cameron Talburt each hit an infield single in the inning, with Talburt and Easton Cline adding an RBI apiece. The Cowboys extended the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the frame, but Nolan Williams matched that in the next half inning with one of his own, taking the score to 4-3. The Cru then took a 5-4 lead, adding two runs on a Jacob Newland single and a bases-loaded walk.
HSU took the upper hand again in the sixth, scoring two runs on one hit. The Cowboys' lead was extended in the next inning, plating one run on two hits. UMHB added one more in the top of the ninth on a Nolan Williams single but was unable to rally back, dropping the game 7-6.
Tyler Martin and Taylor McDaniel added three hits each, while Nolan Williams went two for five with two RBI, one run scored, and a home run.
UMHB returns to action in Abilene on Friday, April 24th, in a 2:00pm doubleheader to continue the series against Hardin-Simmons.
