ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team dropped a Saturday afternoon contest to Hardin-Simmons University, falling to the Cowboys in the final game of a four-game series.
Hardin-Simmons broke a three-inning scoring drought in the fourth inning, plating a pair of runs off RBI singles from Paul Samaripa and Cannon Negron. The Cowboys added another run in the fifth off a solo home run, giving them a 3-0 lead.
Nolan Williams opened the sixth inning with a double and came around to score on an RBI single from
Riley Bender, cutting the gap down to two runs. The Cru tacked on two more runs in the seventh, scoring
Chris Perez on an RBI double from
Landon Pyles and Pyles on a single from Williams.
The Cowboys tacked on seven more runs in the bottom of the seventh, extending the lead to eight runs. Neither team scored again, ending the contest in an 11-3 HSU win.
Nolan Williams and
Austin Birkhoff led the Cru with two hits each while Perez, Williams and Pyles each scored one run. UMHB threw a combined seven pitchers in the contest.
