MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped a 5-0 decision to Hardin-Simmons University in the first game of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.
The Cowgirls struck first in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs on two hits to take a 3-0 lead. Addy Todd led off the fifth with a single, followed by an Ava Jolley double off the wall, but the Cru were unable to respond. HSU plated two more in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-0. Despite a lead-off walk to open the seventh inning, the Cru could not rally back, taking a 5-0 loss.
Addy Todd added one hit, while Ava Jolley had a double in the matchup. Chloe Booth started for the Cru in the circle, throwing 2.2 innings with Madelyn Denn closing it out.
UMHB returns to action on May 8th at 12:00pm in game two of the ASC Championship Tournament, taking on the loser of East Texas Baptist and Howard Payne.
