Todd Haney joined the baseball coaching staff in July 2021. Haney spent the 2021 season as Director of Player Development and Analytics at Texas State University. Haney also spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons in that position for the Bobcats and was responsible for evaluation and scouting of Texas State and its opponents while assisting the rest of the coaching staff in preparation for game days. He has served as the head coach of the Victoria Harbourcats of the West Coast League since 2018. The Harbourcats are a summer collegiate baseball team located in Victoria, British Columbia. Haney served as hitting and bench coach for the Sugar Land Lightning Sloths of the Independent Constellation Energy League in 2020 and helped the team finish second in the league in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, doubles, triples and home runs.
Haney was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 38th round of the 1987 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with the Montreal Expos in 1992. Haney spent the 1994-96 seasons with the Chicago Cubs and split time between the majors and AAA. He played for the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners organizations in 1997 and spent 1998 and 1999 with the New York Mets before retiring from professional baseball in 2000.
He graduated from the University of Texas in 1989. He played two years for the Longhorns and was a two-time All-Southwest Conference First Team selection. He was also voted to the All-SWC Tournament and All-NCAA Central Regional Tournament Teams in 187 as he helped lead Texas to the College World Series. Haney also played two years of baseball at Panola Junior College and earned NJCAA All-American honors as a sophomore. The Waco native is married to Kira and the couple has a son, Tanner.
