Dr. Hunter Sims joined the Cru as Vice President for Athletics in June 2025.Â
Sims serves as chair for both the the American Southwest Conference athletic directors and the NCAA Division III Football Committee. He is also the ASC athletic director liaison for both football and golf while also serving on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes board for the Heart of Texas South.Â

Sims previously served as the Director of Athletics at Howard Payne University. He originally went to Howard Payne as an assistant football coach before assuming the head coach role in 2016. He also assumed the athletic director position in the fall of 2016, serving in both capacities until November 2016.

He obtained his undergraduate degree in multidisciplinary studies from McMurry University, where he competed in football. Sims is one of just two individuals to have served as a student-athlete, coach and administrator in the American Southwest Conference. He also holds a master's degree in sport management from American Public University and earned a Doctorate in Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education.
Sims and his wife, Shannon, have two sons, Sage and Finn.
