Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team battled back to win the third set, but that's as close as the Cru could get in a four-set loss to East Texas Baptist University Saturday morning in Belton. UMHB fell 25-12, 25-19, 17-25, 25-11 to drop to 6-20 overall and 3-7 in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU improves to 14-6 overall and 10-1 in the ASC on the season.
ETBU used a dominating hitting performance to open up a two-set lead before the Cru battled back to win the third set. The Tigers turned it on once again in the fourth set to nail down the victory.
Christina Miller led UMHB with 13 kills and Sara Hayward added seven more. Kayla Marzean led the way with 29 assists and Erin Maenius had a team-high 25 digs. Elise Butler also reached double figures with 10 digs for the Cru.
Kourtney Adams led ETBU with 19 kills and Mary Morgan Swanson added 11 more for the Tigers. Nicole Vanderlaan led EBU with 18 digs and Jane Hays also reached double figures with 14. Brittany Herbort had a team-high 54 assists.
The Cru will continue its home stand with another ASC East Division match next Thursday. UMHB will host Mississippi College for a 5:00 PM start that day. The Cru will then travel to Abilene for the second ASC Cross-Over Tournament of the season on Friday and Saturday.
