Jackson, MS – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team took an early lead and then held on as the Cru posted a 2-0 victory over Mississippi College Thursday night in Jackson, Mississippi. The UMHB men improve to 10-2 overall and 8-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The Cru also holds on to first place in the ASC with the win. The loss drops Mississippi College to 9-2-3 overall and 4-1-3 in the ASC on the year.
The Cru would take a 1-0 lead when Trevor Shoppach scored off an assist from Chris Torres at the 14:35 mark in the first half. That would be the halftime score and it would remain 1-0 deep into the second half as UMHB held off several Choctaw scoring chances. Andrew Carrasco gave the Cru some breathing room with an unassisted goal with 1:23 left to play and that would end up being the final score. Mark Miller posted five saves in goal for the Cru to post the shutout. The Choctaws outshot the Cru 13-9, but both UMHB shots on goal found the back of the net.
The Cru will close out its road trip with a 1:00 PM kickoff at Louisiana College Saturday in Pineville, Louisiana. The UMHB men will then return home to host McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University in ASC showdowns next Friday and Saturday.
