Volleyball beats Mississippi College 3-1

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team battled back from an opening-set loss to win the next three and the Cru posted a 24-26, 25-19, 25-16, 27-25 victory over Mississippi College Thursday evening in Belton. UMHB improves to 7-20 overall and 4-7 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The win also moves the Cru into sole possession of third place in the ASC East Division, one game ahead of the Choctaws. Mississippi College falls to 9-9 overall and 3-8 in the ASC with the loss.
            The Cru comeback was led by the hitting of Christina Miller and Kaydie Cochran. Miller and Cochran finished with a match-high 16 kills apiece to lead UMHB. Kayla Marzean had 45 assists and Erin Maenius topped four Cru players in double figures in digs with 21. Jasmine Austin added 15 digs, Cochran chipped in 14 and Elise Butler recorded 11.

            Megan Deen led Mississippi College with 15 kills, including nine in the opening-set win. Katie Rowland also reached double figures with 11 kills and Jessica Torick had nine. Allie Mullins had a team-best 40 assists for the Choctaws and Katie Askew posted 34 digs. Courtney Creamer also reached double figures with 13 digs for MC.

            The Cru will now travel to Abilene for the second ASC Cross-Over Tournament of the season this weekend. UMHB will face Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University and McMurry University on Friday and Saturday to close out cross-division play for the season.
