Marshall, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team battled back from a deficit to force a fifth game, but the Cru could not come all the way back in a five set loss to Concordia Texas Friday evening in Marshall. The loss drops UMHB to 6-15 overall and 3-3 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. Concordia improves to 3-10 overall and 2-5 in the ASC with the victory. The match was part of the ASC Cross-Over Tournament at East Texas Baptist University.
UMHB won set one before dropping the next two. The Cru battled back with a big victory in the fourth set before Concordia held on for a 15-25, 25-18, 25-18, 9-25, 15-8 victory. Christina Miller led the Cru with 11 kills and she also added three block assists. Kaydie Cochran had a double-double for UMHB with 10 kills and 14 digs and she also posted three service aces. Sara Hayward had five block assists for the Cru, Kayla Marzean led the team with 29 assists and Erin Maenius added a team-high 20 digs. Elise Butler also added a career-high 17 digs for the Cru in the match.
The Cru will close out the crossover tournament with two more matches tomorrow. UMHB will take on Texas Lutheran University in a 9:30 AM start before closing out the day with a 12:00 PM start against Schreiner University.
