Volleyball tops Sul Ross State at ASC Cross-Over Tournament

Marshall, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team overcame a slow start with three straight victories to post a four-set win over Sul Ross State University to open the American Southwest Conference Cross-Over Tournament Friday afternoon in Marshall. The Cru improves to 6-14 overall and 3-2 in ASC play with the victory. The loss drops Sul Ross State to 1-13 overall and 0-7 in the ASC.
            UMHB dropped the first set before bouncing back for the 24-26, 25-14, 25-22, 25-14 victory. Christina Miller led the Cru with 18 kills and Kaydie Cochran had a double-double with 13 kills and 17 digs. Kayla Marzean had a team-best 31 assists and Alexis Tharp also reached double figures with 11 assists. Erin Maenius posted a team-high 19 digs and the Cru had 12 total team blocks. Brooke Bankston topped Sul Ross with 14 kills and Gina Medina chipped in 13 more. Josette Delgado had 23 assists and Bankston and Kathy Peralez each had eight digs for the Lobos.
            The Cru will face Concordia Texas in a 4:30 PM start. UMHB will then take on Texas Lutheran University and Schreiner University to close out the tournament tomorrow.
