Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team grabbed a lead late in the first half and used a stellar defensive effort to make it stand up as the Cru posted a 1-0 victory over Hardin-Simmons University Friday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB men improve to 12-2 overall and 10-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Cowboys to 7-2-4 overall and 6-1-2 in the ASC. UMHB also moves another full game ahead of HSU in the conference standings and moves to within one win of clinching the home field advantage for the ASC Championship Tournament.
            The two teams were locked up in a scoreless defensive struggle through much of the first half. UMHB finally broke through on Logan Nance's goal off assists from Drew Shipman and Bo Baker at the 41:18 mark of the match. The two teams combined for just eight total shots in the first half. The Cru defense came up big in the second half, stopping several point blank shots from the Cowboys. UMHB goalkeeper Mark Miller posted 10 saves and recorded his eighth shutout of the season. Logan Waters had two saves in goal for Hardin-Simmons and UMHB missed just wide on a pair of point-blank shots midway through the second half.

            The UMHB men will play host to McMurry University for a 3:00 PM start tomorrow at the Cru Sports Plex in the final home match of the regular season. The Cru will then close out the regular season with a 3:00 PM road match at Howard Payne University in Brownwood on October 31st.
