Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team could not overcome a first-half deficit and the Cru women fell to Hardin-Simmons 4-0 Friday afternoon in Belton. The loss drops the UMHB women to 9-5 overall and 8-3 in American Southwest Conference play. Hardin-Simmons improves to 13-1 overall and 9-0 in the ASC with the victory.
Hardin-Simmons grabbed a quick 1-0 lead when Amy Kuykendall scored off assists from Carlyn Powers and Katie Kuykendall just 8:59 into the match. It would stay that way until the very end of the first half until Katie Kuykendall scored off a Powers assist with no time showing on the game clock. Amu Kuykendall would score off an assist from Austin Ricker 78:11 into the match to provide a little more breathing room for the Cowgirls and Austin Ricker scored off a Miranda Bersosa assist with just 6:14 left in the match to account for the final margin. Allyson Sargeant had seven saves in goal for UMHB. Christi Carr had one save in goal and recorded the shutout for the Cowgirls. HSU outshot UMHB 25-6 and put 11 of those shots on goal in the match.
The Cru women will host McMurry University for a 1:00 PM ASC match tomorrow at the Cru Sports Plex. The UMHB women will then close out the regular season home schedule with a 4:00 PM start against Trinity University on Monday in Belton.
