Volleyball falls to Mississippi College 3-1

Clinton, MS – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team fell behind early and the Cru could not recover in a four-set loss to Mississippi College Friday night in Clinton, Mississippi. UMHB fell 25-16, 25-15, 11-25, 25-15 to the Choctaws to drop one match behind Mississippi College in the American Southwest Conference East Division standings. The loss drops the Cru to 7-24 overall and 4-11 in ASC play on the year. Mississippi College improves to 11-12 overall and 5-10 in the ASC with the victory. 
            Christina Miller led the Cru with 11 kills and Kaydie Cochran added nine more. Kayla Marzean had a team-high 28 assists for UMHB and Erin Maenius posted a team-best 21 digs. Nicole Cowan and Sara Hayward had three block assists apiece for the Cru, who posted 10 block assists as a team.

            Jessica Torick led the Choctaws with 14 kills and Katie Rowland also reached double figures with 10 kills. Allie Mullins had 35 assists to lead Mississippi College and Katie Askew led four Choctaws in double figures with 15 digs in the match.

            The Cru will now return home to close out the regular season with a pair of crucial home matches next week. UMHB will take on LeTourneau University in a 5:00 PM start on Thursday before closing out the regular season with a 7:00 PM start against U.T.-Tyler on Friday. The Cru must win both of those matches and have Mississippi College lose at least one more to stay alive in the hunt for an ASC Championship Tournament berth.
