Men's soccer beats McMurry 4-0 and clinches 1st place in the ASC

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team scored early and controlled the game from there as the Cru rolled to a 4-0 victory over McMurry University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB men improve to 13-2 overall and 11-1 in American Southwest Conference play. The win also clinches first place in the ASC for the Cru men and means that the UMHB men will host the ASC Championship Tournament for the first time in the program's history. The loss drops McMurry to 2-10-2 overall and 0-8-3 in ASC play on the season.
            The UMHB men grabbed a quick 1-0 lead when Daniel Green scored an unassisted goal just 1:44 into the match. The Cru added some breathing room when Ben Allen scored off an assist from Bo Baker 10:09 into the match. UMHB would lead 2-0 at halftime and the Cru added a pair of insurance goals in the second half. Kyle Dickey scored of an assist from Garrett Graham at the 81:19 mark and Chris Gilham scored off a free kick at the 89:05 mark to provide the final margin.

            Mark Miller posted five saves in goal for his ninth shutout of the season for the Cru. Collin Bowersock and Matt Mouer combined for two saves in goal for McMurry. UMHB outshot McMurry 17-10 in the match.

            The Cru will now travel to Brownwood to close out the regular season next weekend. UMHB will take on Howard Payne University in a 3:00 PM start next Saturday in the regular season finale for both teams. The Cru men will then play host to the ASC Championship Tournament November 6-8 at the Cru Sports Plex.
