Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team scored early and often and the Cru women cruised to an 8-0 victory over McMurry University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB women improve to 10-5 overall and 9-3 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The Cru women also clinch a berth in the ASC Championship Tournament with today's win. The loss drops McMurry to 0-13-1 overall and 0-10-1 in the ASC on the season.
UMHB took control of the match when Lexy Smith scored off an assist from Lindsay Hunt 7:30 into the match. Angel Kemmerer would score off another assist from Hunt at the 13:26 mark and Smith added an unassisted goal just 23 seconds later to make it 3-0 Cru. Jordan Powers scored an unassisted goal and Mickie Arredondo added a goal off an assist from Brooke Magers to give UMHB a 5-0 lead at halftime. Hunt would score an unassisted goal and then assist Erin Salyer early in the second half to make it 7-0. Smith would close out the scoring off an assist from Courtney Reynolds at the 75:05 mark of the match.
Allyson Sargeant posted two saves and recorded the shutout in goal for the UMHB women. Jessica Ramirez had nine saves in goal for McMurry. The Cru women outshot McMurry 33-3 in the match and did not allow a shot in the second half of the match.
The Cru women will play host to Trinity University for a 4:00 PM start Monday at the Cru Sports Plex. UMHB will then close out the regular season with a 1:00 PM start at Howard Payne University next Saturday in Brownwood. The 2009 ASC Championship Tournament will be played at either Hardin-Simmons University or U.T.-Tyler on November 6-8.
