Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team used another outstanding defensive effort and more timely scoreless as the Cru posted a 2-0 victory over U.T.-Tyler Saturday afternoon in Tyler. The UMHB men improve to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops U.T.-Tyler to 2-5-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the ASC on the season.
The two teams were scoreless through the first half and deep into the second half before the Cru finally broke through. Daniel Gable scored off an assist from Trevor Shoppach to make it 1-0 UMHB at the 76:26 mark. The Cru would add a little breathing room when Andrew Carrasco scored an unassisted goal at the 87:43 mark to put it out of reach. Mark Miller finished with four saves in goal for UMHB to post his fifth consecutive shutout. The Cru was outshot 12-9 in the game, but put four of those nine shots on goal.
The Cru men will now return home for a pair of crucial ASC matches next weekend. UMHB will play host to U.T.-Dallas for a 3:00 PM start on Friday afternoon before welcoming University of the Ozarks to the Cru Sports Plex for a 3:00 PM start on Saturday.
