Brownwood, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team grabbed a second-half lead and the defense made it stand up as the Cru women posted a 2-0 victory over Howard Payne University Saturday afternoon in Brownwood. The UMHB women improve to 11-5 overall and 10-4 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The Cru women also set school records for single-season victories and conference wins in a season with the win. The loss drops Howard Payne to 8-8-3 overall and 6-5-2 in the ASC on the season.
            The two teams were scoreless through the first half before UMHB finally broke through. Mickie Arredondo scored off an assist from Jordan Powers at the 50:59 mark. Erin Salyer scored an unassisted goal just under six minutes later to give the Cru a little breathing room and the UMHB defense would make it stand up. Allyson Sargeant finished with eight saves in goal to post the shutout for the Cru women. Kaitlyn Kelm had three saves in goal for HPU.

            The Cru women will now advance to the ASC Championship Tournament for the third straight season. The UMHB women are the #4 seed in the tournament and will open play with an 11:00 first round game against #5 seed East Texas Baptist University next Friday. The winner of that game will face #1 seed Hardin-Simmons in an 11:00 AM semifinal on Saturday. The ASC Tournament will be played in November 6th, 7th and 8th in Abilene and will be hosted by Hardin-Simmons University.
