Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team grabbed an early lead and used another outstanding defensive effort to make it stand up as the Cru rolled to a 3-0 victory over U.T.-Dallas Friday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB men improve to 9-1 overall and 7-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Comets to 6-3-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the ASC on the year.
            The Cru grabbed a 1-0 lead when Trevor Shoppach scored off an assist from Vincent Morales at the 13:32 mark of the first half. Ben Allen scored off a Kyle Dickey assist 5:01 later to put UMHB up 2-0 and the Cru never looked back. Bo Baker would score off another Morales assist 20:45 into the second half to provide a little more insurance and the Cru defense made it stand up. Mark Miller posted four saves and recorded his sixth straight shutout in goal for UMHB. Jake Brandon had two saves in goal for U.T.-Dallas. The Comets outshot the Cru 20-8 in the match, but UMHB put five of its shots on goal while UTD only had four shots on goal.
            The Cru, ranked 25th in the nation in the NSCAA Top 25 Poll, will close out its home stand with another key ASC showdown tomorrow. UMHB will host University of the Ozarks for a 3:00 PM start at the Cru Sports Plex.
