Women's basketball falls to Trinity 77-67

San Antonio, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team jumped out to an early lead, but the Cru could not hold on in a 77-67 loss to Trinity University Tuesday evening in San Antonio. The loss evens UMHB's record at 1-1 on the season. The Tigers improve to 3-0 on the season with the victory.
            UMHB scored the game's first seven points and opened up a 9-2 lead early in the first half. The Cru would have a 13-8 lead before the Tigers went on a 10-2 run to take a 28-15 lead. The two teams would continue to trade the lead back-and-forth before Trinity scored the final four points of the first half to take a 35-32 halftime lead. The Cru would open a three-point second half lead on Miranda Shorter's layup with 11:38 left. A Shorter free-throw woul make it 50-46 Cru one minute later, but the Tigers started their comeback. Trinity's 8-2 run would give the Tigers a 54-52 lead, but Jessica Kelly' lay-up capped a brief rally that would put UMHB on top 58-56 with 5:18 remaining. Trinity would go on a 10-0 run to take control of the game and the Cru would not get closer than five points the rest of the way.

            The Tigers shot 46 per cent from the field in the game and hit 9-20 from three-point range. UMHB shot just 38 per cent from the field and was only 5-20 from beyond the arc. The Cru out rebounded Trinity but could not overcome the Tigers 24-28 shooting from the free-throw line. UMHB hit just 4-10 from the line.

            Mallory McAdams led UMHB with 16 points and she added five rebounds and three assists. Jenny Black added 11 points for the Cru and Kellie Thomas, Kallie White and Landie Thompson all chipped in with 10 points apiece. Lindsay Eaton grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for UMHB. Abby Dietert had a game-high 19 points to top Trinity and Danielle Hubenk added 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Ali Marzella and Alexandra Blake also reached double figures for Trinity with 14 and 11 points respectively.  

            The Cru will now continue its road trip with the American Southwest Conference opener this weekend. The UMHB women will face defending ASC East Division champion U.T.-Dallas in a 1:00 PM start on Saturday in Richardson. The Cru women will close out the road swing with a 5:30 PM tip-off at University of the Ozarks Monday night in Clarksville, Arkansas.
