Richardson, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team could not take advantage of Dean Pele's huge day as the Cru dropped an 83-79 decision to U.T.-Dallas Saturday afternoon in Richardson. The loss drops the UMHB men to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. The Comets improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the ASC with the victory.

UTD opened the game with a 7-0 run and jumped out to a 14-2 lead before Pele's shooting brought the Cru back. Consecutive three-pointers by Pele would tie the game at 33 with under a minute to play in the first half. A Comet three would make it 36-33, but Theo Ard's lay-up cut it to 36-35 at the half. UTD dominated the early minutes of the second half to open up a 13-point lead before the Cru battled back again. UMHB would close to within four points on three occasions in the second half, but that's as close as the Cru would get.

Pele finished with a career-high 38 points and he hit 9-18 from three-point range to fall one three short of tying the ASC record for three-pointers in a game. Greg Wiernas added 10 points and Ard had nine points and rebounds for the Cru. Scott Rodgers led four Comets in double figures with 19 points and he also grabbed six rebounds. Brandon Greene and Curtis Davis chipped in with 12 points apiece and Jordan Eppink added 10 points for UTD.

The Cru will now close out the road trip with a 7:30 PM tip-off at University of the Ozarks Monday night in Clarksville. UMHB will then return home to host LeTourneau University and East Texas Baptist next week.
