Women's basketball beats Ozarks 79-68

Clarksville, AR – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team took control of the game early in the second half and the Cru women rolled to a 79-68 victory over the University of the Ozarks Monday evening in Clarksville, Arkansas. The UMHB women even their record at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Eagles to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the ASC on the season.

            UMHB led 26-23 at halftime, but quickly took charge of the game in the second half. The Cru opened the half with a 16-4 run to open up a 15-point lead. UMHB would continue to hold a double-digit lead through most of the second half before a late Ozarks rally pulled the Eagles to within nine points with 14 seconds left, but that's as close as the Ozarks would get.

            Stacie Stephens came off the bench to lead a balanced UMHB scoring attack with 11 points. Kellie Thomas also reached double figures with 10 points and Lindsay Eaton and Jessica Kelly added nine points apiece. Sixteen different players scored for the Cru women in the game and three different players grabbed a team-high five rebounds for UMHB. Alison Villines led Ozarks with 20 points and April Young added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

            UMHB shot 46 per cent from the field in the game and hit 53 per cent in the second half. The Cru held Ozarks to 37 per cent shooting and UMHB also out rebounded the Eagles 43-34 in the victory.

            The Cru women will now return home for a pair of ASC games later this week. UMHB will host LeTourneau University for a 5:30 PM tip-off on Thursday before welcoming East Texas Baptist to the Mayborn Campus Center for a 5:30 PM start on Saturday.
