Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will hit the road for the final time this regular season when the Cru travels to Brownwood this Saturday to take on Howard Payne University in a crucial American Southwest Conference showdown. UMHB is 7-1 overall and 5-1 in ASC play on the season and the Cru is now tied for first place in the ASC with Mississippi College. The Cru needs to continue winning to have a shot at an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The Yellow Jackets (4-4, 2-4 ASC) are flying high after a 38-24 upset victory over Mississippi College that knocked the Choctaws into a tie for first place with UMHB. The Cru can also clinch a share of the ASC championship with two more victories.
“Our kids understand what is at stake from here on out,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “We are only guaranteed two more weeks and our kids know that. We have told them that they better make the most of the two weeks we know we have left. That will continue this weekend with a match-up against a Howard Payne team that is very talented and is playing very well right now.”

The Cru has won or shared six of the last seven ASC titles and UMHB has advanced to the NCAA Division III National Championships in seven of the last eight seasons. The Cru is 9-2 against the Yellow Jackets all-time. You can listen to the game locally on KTEM-AM 1400 or on the world wide web through the KTEM web site.
