Women's basketball falls to U.T.-Tyler 56-49

Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team battled back from a double-digit second-half lead, but the Cru comeback fell short in a 56-49 loss to U.T.-Tyler Saturday evening in Tyler. The loss drops the UMHB women to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. The Patriots improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the ASC on the season with the victory.
            The Cru women would overcome a cold-shooting first half to lead by as many as six points. U.T.-Tyler fought back to cut the lead to 27-26 UMHB at halftime. The Patriots opened the second half with a 13-2 run to take a 10-point lead at 39-29. UMHB would pull to within 44-41 on a Kellie Thomas jumper at the 6:40 mark. U.T.-Tyler would quickly push the back to seven points before the Cru used another run to close to within three on Mallory McAdams' three-pointer with 2:08 remaining. But UMHB would not score another basketball as the Patriots closed the game with a 5-1 run to provide the final margin.

            Thomas led the Cru with 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Jenny Black added eight points and 10 rebounds for UMHB. Paige Parrish and Afritina Anderson led the Patriots with 19 points apiece. Anderson also grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds for U.T.-Tyler and Melissa Thomas chipped in with 13 points.

            UMHB shot just 27 per cent from the field in the game and the Cru went 6-24 from three-point range. U.T.-Tyler shot 38 per cent from the field and went 19-31 from the free-throw line compared to 5-10 from the stripe for the Cru. The Patriots also out rebounded UMHB 54-42 in the game.

            The Cru women will now have a 16-day break before returning to action after the Christmas holiday. UMHB will travel to San Antonio to play a pair of games at the Trinity University Tournament on December 28th and 29th.
