Men's soccer tops 5th-ranked Trinity University 2-1

San Antonio, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer grabbed an early lead and then held off a late Trinity University charge as the Cru posted a 2-1 victory over the 5th-ranked Tigers in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night in San Antonio. UMHB is now 1-0 to open the season with the loss drops the Tigers to 0-1 on the season.
            UMHB took a 1-0 lead when Daniel Green scored off Daniel Gable's assist just 8:28 into the match. It would stay 1-0 deep into the second half before UMHB stretched it to 2-0. Bo Baker scored off Kyle Dickey's assist 75:43 into the match. Trinity would cut it to 2-1 on a goal with 3:57 remaining in the match before the Cru defense came up big. UMHB held off a furious Trinity charge in the final minutes to preserve the victory.
            Mark Miller had five saves in goal for the Cru to earn the win. Trinity outshot the Cru 25-7 in the match and held an 11-3 edge in corner kicks with eight of those coming in the second half.
            UMHB will return to action with a 5:00 PM non-conference match at Southwestern University Saturday in Georgetown. The Cru will then face Austin College next Saturday in Sherman before opening American Southwest Conference play the following weekend.
