Women's soccer falls to Southwestern in season opener

Georgetown, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit and the Cru women dropped a 3-1 decision at Southwestern University in the 2009 season opener Tuesday night in Georgetown. The Cru is now 0-1 to start the season. The Pirates open the year with a 1-0 record.
            Southwestern took a 1-0 lead with A.J. Andreola scored off an assist from Jillian Curran 11:05 into the match. It would stay that way into the second half before the Pirates scored a pair of quick goals. Amy Douglas scored 1:22 into the second half and Curran added a goal just 16 seconds later to make it 3-0 Southwestern. UMHB would cut it to 3-1 when Mickie Arredondo scored off Erin Salyer's assist at the 78:04 mark, but that would be as close as the Cru could get.
            Ally Sargeant and Meredith West combined for five saves in goal for the UMHB women. Cheryl Duncan and Sarah Monaka combined for two saves in goal for Southwestern. The Pirates out shot UMHB 14-6 in the game.
            The Cru women will return to action with a road, non-conference match at University of Dallas on Friday at 5:00 PM. UMHB will then travel to Sherman for a 5:00 PM kickoff next Tuesday.
