Seguin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team saw one second-half lead slip away, but the Cru answered with a late goal to post a 2-1 victory over Texas Lutheran University in the conference opener for the UMHB women Friday afternoon in Seguin. The Cru women improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops TLU to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the ASC on the year.
The two teams played a scoreless first half before the Cru broke through early in the second half. Erin Salyer scored off an assist from Angel Kemmerer in the 52nd minute to make it 1-0 UMHB. Texas Lutheran would come back to tie the match on Sunny Valencia's goal off an assist from Kristin Meloni in the 60th minute. Mickie Arredondo would then score what proved to be the game-winner when she headed home a corner kick from Brooke Magers in the 64th minute to give the Cru a 2-1 lead. The UMHB defense would make it stand up the rest of the way as the Cru held on for the victory. Allyson Sargeant had three saves in goal for the Cru women to get the victory.
The UMHB women will continue the road trip with an ASC match at Schreiner University tomorrow. The Cru and the Mountaineers will kick off at 2:00 PM in Kerrville.
