Seguin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team opened defense of its American Southwest Conference championship in style by pounding Texas Lutheran University Saturday night in Seguin. UMHB, ranked 3rd in the country, improves to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the ASC with the victory. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the ASC on the season.
            The Cru set the tone by forcing a turnover on the game's opening possession and then marching 63 yards in four plays. Kyle Noack capped the drive with a 24-yard touchdown strike to Pi'Dadro Davis to make it 7-0 UMHB at the 10:35 mark. The Cru then went 79 yards on the next drive before Quincy Daniels erupted for a 66-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0. Alan Munoz added a 31-yard field goal on the next Cru possession to give UMHB a 17-0 lead. It would stay that way into the second quarter before Desmond Mays bulled over from one-yard out to make it a 24-0 lead. Javicz Jones picked off a TLU pass on the next possession and returned it 61 yards for a score. Freshman LiDarral Bailey then threw a 54-yard TD pass to Brian Scott and added a 58-yard touchdown run to give the Cru a 45-0 lead at halftime. Rickie Williams scored on runs of one-yard and 13 yards to stretch the UMHB lead to 59-0 at the end of the third quarter. Texas Lutheran's only points of the game came on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Jarret Buchholtz to Jonathon Randle as the clock ran out. 
            Daniels finished with 110 rushing yards and a TD on just five carries. Bailey ran for 91 yards on five carries and went 10-11 passing for 142 yards and another score. Noack hit 11-12 passes for 118 yards and a TD. Davis finished with a career-high seven catches for 104 yards and a TD and Scott caught five passes for 89 yards and a score. The Cru rolled up 614 yards of total offense while the UMHB defense held TLU to just 71 yards rushing and 228 yards of total offense and just missed out on posting its first shut out of the season. The Cru rolled up 354 yards rushing and added 260 yards through the air in the victory.
            Linebacker Jerrad Jefferson led the UMHB defense with 13 tackles. The Cru defense also forced six turnovers in the game, picking off three passes and recovering three fumbles in the game. UMHB also stretched its ASC winning streak to 30 consecutive victories and the Cru has now won 10 straight over Texas Lutheran.
                The Cru will now return home for the 2009 season opener. UMHB will host McMurry University for a 6:00 PM kickoff at Tiger Field. McMurry is 0-3 on the season after falling to Mississippi College 61-14 tonight.
