Cru football gears up for home opener

Belton, TX – Three weeks into the 2009 season, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team finally gets a chance to play in front of the home fans when the Cru opens the home schedule with a 6:00 PM kickoff against McMurry University this Saturday. UMHB is 2-0 overall and 1-0 in American Southwest Conference play following a 59-7 victory over Texas Lutheran last Saturday in Seguin. McMurry is off to an 0-3 overall start and is 0-1 in the ASC after falling to Mississippi College 61-14 last Saturday in Abilene. The Cru enters the game ranked #3 in the country in both major national polls and UMHB has won 30 consecutive ASC contests. McMurry on the other hand has lost 16 straight games and has dropped its last eight in a row against UMHB. But McMurry has changed head coaches and changed to the “Air Raid” offense and the Cru expects another tough challenge on Saturday night.
“We are really excited about getting a chance to play at home and there is a lot of excitement with McMurry and (new head coach) Hal Mumme coming in here,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “They present some special challenges and we are going to have to be ready for that and it should be a fun night. We know we are going to get everybody's best effort every time we step on the field. So we can never get complacent or we won't reach the goals we have set for this program.”
The Cru will now play four of its next six games at home after opening with back-to-back road games. Saturday's game will be broadcast on KTEM-AM 1400 Radio and will also be streamed through the UMHB web site at www.cruathletics.com. For the first time, UMHB will also offer a live, free video stream. You access the video by clicking here.
