Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team dominated the first half and then cruised to a 4-0 victory over East Texas Baptist University Friday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB men improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops ETBU to 1-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the ASC on the season.
UMHB broke open the match with three first half goals. Kyle Dickey's unassisted goal gave the Cru a 1-0 lead just 5:37 into the match. Trevor Shoppach added a goal off Daniel Gable's assist 1:06 later to put UMHB up 2-0. Kaleb Hellums would add a goal off an assist from Logan Nance at the 31:04 mark to make it a 3-0 Cru lead. It would stay that way into the second half before Shoppach added an unassisted goal for a little insurance for the Cru. ETBU could not dent the net as UMHB goalkeeper Mark Miller posted six saves in the shutout for the Cru. Both teams took 15 shots in a physical match that saw four yellow cards, but just 20 fouls called on the two teams.
The UMHB men have now matched last season's victory total just six matches into the season. The Cru will host LeTourneau University for a 4:00 PM start at the Cru Sports Plex tomorrow. UMHB will then hit the road for matches at Concordia Texas and U.T.-Tyler next week.
