Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team battled back to tie the match late and the Cru women scored the game-winner in the second overtime as the Cru posted a 4-3 double overtime victory over LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB women improve to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops LeTourneau to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the ASC on the season.
The match would be tied at one going into the second half before Mickie Arredondo scored at the 59:44 mark to make it 2-1 UMHB. Kirby Posey then scored back-to-back unassisted goals, the second coming at the 73:43 mark to give LeTourneau a 3-2 lead. Brooke Magers would score off an Arredondo assist 2:30 later to tie the match and it would stay that would through the end of regulation and the first overtime period. Jordan Powers then scored off a corner kick 1:20 into the second overtime to send the Cru to the 4-3 victory. Kim Wobecky scored the Cru's first-half goal off an assist from Arredondo and Wobecky also assist on Arredondo's goal.
UMHB out shot LeTourneau 16-14 in the match and put 10 of those shots on goal. Briana Redwine had six saves for LeTourneau. Erica Harris and Allyson Sargeant combined for six saves in goal for the Cru in the victory.
The Cru women will now hit the road for a pair of ASC matches next week. The UMHB women will open the week with a 1:00 PM start at Concordia Texas on Thursday. The Cru women will then close out the week with a 1:00 PM kickoff at U.T.-Tyler next Saturday.
