Irving, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team grabbed a second half lead and then held off a late University of Dallas charge to post a 1-0 victory over the Crusaders Friday afternoon in Irving. The Cru evens its record at 1-1 on the season with the victory. The loss drops the University of Dallas to 0-2 on the year.
The two teams were scoreless into the second half before UMHB finally broke through. Erin Salyer scored off a free kick eight minutes into the second half for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 UMHB lead. The Cru would make it stand up, holding off the Crusader offense, especially in the final minutes of play for the shutout and the win. Meredith West and Erica Harris split the match in goal for the UMHB women and kept Dallas off the scoreboard as the Cru posted its first shutout of the young season.
The Cru women will return to action with a 5:00 PM road game at Austin College next Tuesday. The UMHB women will then return home for the 2009 home opener against Houston-Tillotson University next Saturday, September 12th, at 2:00 PM.
