Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team rolled to a victory in the first match of the day, but the Cru fell in the day's final match and the Cru closed out play in the U.T.-Tyler/Azalea Orthopedic Classic with a 1-1 record on the final Saturday afternoon in Tyler. UMHB opened the day with a three-set victory over Jarvis Christian College and the Cru then fell in three sets to the University of St. Thomas. UMHB is now 1-5 on the season.
The Cru opened the day with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-13 victory over Jarvis Christian College for UMHB's first victory of the season. Christina Miller led the Cru with eight kills and she also added two service aces and four block assists. Sara Hayward chipped in with seven kills and four block assists. Kaydie Cochran had a solid all-around match, posting five kills, 10 digs and three block assists. Kayla Marzean led the Cru with 14 assists and she also added three service aces. Alexis Tharp added 12 assists and Erin Maenius had a team-best 13 digs in the match for UMHB.
The Cru then closed out the day with a 25-10, 25-18, 25-20 loss to the University of St. Thomas. Erin Tabb had a team-high seven kills and Cochran added 13 digs and five kills for the Cru. Maenius had a team-best 16 digs and Marzean added 11 assists for the Cru.
The Cru will return to action with four matches next weekend. UMHB will play in the Austin College Classic next Friday and Saturday. That tournament will be played in Sherman.
