Sherman, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer fell behind early and the Cru's late comeback fell short in a 3-1 loss to Austin College Tuesday afternoon in Sherman. The loss drops the UMHB women to 1-2 on the season. The Kangaroos improve to 3-0-1 on the year with the victory.
Austin College would take a 1-0 lead when Annie Gunter scored off an assist from Emma Treu at the 6:14 mark of the first half. The Roos stretched it to 2-0 when Treu scored off a Gunter assist just 19 seconds later. The lead would grow to 3-0 when Chelsea Parker scored off a corner kick in the 40th minute. It would stay that way into the second half before Mickie Arredondo scored for the Cru women in the 50th minute to cut it to 3-1. Arredondo's goal was the first surrendered by the Kangaroos this season. That's as close as UMHB would get the rest of the way, as the Cru defense also kept Austin College off the scoreboard in the second half.
Ally Sargeant had six first-half saves for UMHB. Erica Harris added a save in the second half for the Cru. Kaitlin Ellidge had two saves in goal for Austin College. The Roos out shot UMHB 17-7 in the match.
The Cru women will now return home for the 2009 home opener this weekend. UMHB will host Huston-Tillotson University for a 2:00 PM kickoff on Saturday at the Cru Sports Plex.
