Women's basketball tops Sul Ross State 77-48

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team broke open a tight game with a dominant second half and the Cru rolled to a 77-48 victory over Sul Ross State University Thursday night in Belton. The UMHB women pick up their sixth straight victory to improve to 10-4 overall and 7-3 in American Southwest Conference play. The Lobos fall to 1-13 overall and 1-9 in the ASC with the loss.
            The Cru led by just four points at 24-20 with 8:29 remaining in the first half. UMHB would close the half with a 14-3 run to take a 38-23 halftime lead. The Cru women would stretch it out in the second half, and the lead would not go below 14 points the rest of the way. UMHB scored the game's final nine points for the final margin of victory.

            Kallie White led the Cru with 21 points and Lindsay Eaton added 15 more for UMHB. Ten different players scored for the Cru and Ayla Adams and Caitlin Barganier grabbed a team-high five rebounds apiece. Shiloh Baade came off the bench to lead Sul Ross with 13 points. Hailey Frerichs and Rosa Cruz added 10 points apiece for the Lobos.

            UMHB out rebounded Sul Ross State 39-27 in the game and the Cru shot 48 per cent from the field. UMHB hit 43 per cent from three-point range. The Cru also held the Lobos to just 31 per cent shooting from the field and UMHB forced 26 Sul Ross State turnovers in the victory.

            The Cru women will close out their five game home stand with another ASC West Division showdown on Saturday. The UMHB women will host Howard Payne University for a 1:00 PM tip-off at the Mayborn Campus Center on Saturday.
