Ashland, OR – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team dominated the second half to overcome a sluggish first half and the Cru rolled to a 31-10 victory over Southern Oregon University Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Oregon. UMHB improves to 6-0 on the season with the victory. The Raiders lose for fifth straight time to fall to 2-5 on the season.
            The game was scoreless through the first quarter before UMHB finally put the game's first points on the board. LiDarral Bailey scored on an eight-yard TD run following a Southern Oregon fumble to put the Cru up 7-0 with 12:58 left in the second quarter. The Raiders would drive 83-yards in nine plays before Taylor Crowley hit a 29-yard field goal with 24 seconds left in the first half. UMHB answered quickly and Alan Munoz hit a 46-yard field goal with two seconds left to play in the half to give the Cru a 10-3 lead at halftime.

            UMHB forced a fumble on the first offensive play of the second half and the Cru turned it into a 19-yard Bailey TD run to stretch the lead to 17-3 with 13:04 to play in the third quarter. Quincy Daniels added a five-yard TD run to put UMHB up 24-3 with 7:40 remaining in the third. Southern Oregon would score its only touchdown of the game on Brandon Baldwin's two-yard run with 2:55 left to play. The Cru once again answered, this time on Bailey's five-yard TD pass to Trey Hazelton with 1:26 left to play. Chad Cannon would intercept a pass on the next SOU possession and the Cru ran out the clock to clinch the victory.

            UMHB rolled up 480 yards of total offense and held the Raiders to just 217 yards of offense in the game. The Cru put up 356 of those yards on the ground to help overcome a pair of turnovers. The Raiders ran for just 52 yards on 25 carries and turned the ball over four times.

            Bailey ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns and added 115 passing yards and TD. Daniels added 106 yards rushing on 20 carries and the Cru used 10 different ball carriers in the game. Ervin Johnson caught three passes for 41 yards. Ty Dooley led the UMHB defense with 11 tackles and Silvio Diaz added to sacks for the Cru.

            Paul Sweeney was 13-30 passing for SOU for 165 yards and he tossed two interceptions in the game. Baldwin ran for 58 yards on 21 carries and Vance Beach caught seven passes for 100 yards for the Raiders. Dayne Mendes led Southern Oregon with nine tackles and he added an interception and 1.5 sacks.

            The Cru will now return to American Southwest Conference play with a 2:00 PM kickoff at East Texas Baptist University next Saturday. That game will be played at Ornelas Stadium in Marshall.
