Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team returns to American Southwest Conference play this weekend and the Cru is the only ASC team to have control of its own destiny in the race for a conference title and playoff berth. The Cru will travel to Marshall to tangle with East Texas Baptist University in a 2:00 PM kickoff at Ornelas Stadium on Saturday. UMHB is 6-0 overall and 4-0 in ASC play and the Cru will also enter that contest ranked 4
th in the nation by the American Football Coaches Association and 5
th nationally by D3football.com. ETBU is 3-4 overall and 2-3 in ASC play on the season. The Cru is the only unbeaten team remaining in the ASC and the UMHB football team is off to a 6-0 start for the eighth time in 13 seasons of play. The Cru has lost the seventh game of the season after two of those starts and will face another stiff test in an ETBU offense led by quarterback Sed Harris, the ASC's leading rusher.
“Their quarterback is a key, he's really talented and can break tackles and scramble and make plays with his feet and his arm,” Cru head coach
Pete Fredenburg said. “He's a lot like (UMHB quarterback)
LiDarral Bailey, just a little bigger. We don't face too many like him so it will be a real challenge for our defense.”
UMHB has won six in a row against East Texas Baptist and the Cru leads the all-time series between the two teams 9-1. UMHB has double-digit win totals against every current ASC program except ETBU. A win Saturday would give the Cru ten victories against the Tigers, but more importantly, it would also keep UMHB in the driver's seat for an ASC title.
Saturday's game will be broadcast on KTEM-AM 1400 Radio with the pre-game starting at 1:30 PM. You can also access an Internet audio stream through the UMHB web site at
www.cruathletics.com. East Texas Baptist University should also provide live stats for Saturday's game through the ETBU athletic department web site.
