Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team dominated the first half and the Cru rolled to a 4-0 victory over Howard Payne University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB men improve to 11-3 overall and 8-3 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 9-4-1 overall and 7-4 in the ASC on the season.
Derek Geels gave the Cru a quick 2-0 lead when he scored two goals in a 57 second span in the 11
th minute of the match.
Garrett Graham and
Kyle Dickey assisted on the second goal. Geels then assisted
Trevor Shoppach in the 15
th minute to stretch the UMHB lead to 3-0.
Daniel Gable would add a goal off a
Michael Hicks assist in the 43
rd minute to give the Cru a 4-0 halftime lead. That would be more than enough for the UMHB defense as the Cru held the Yellow Jackets to just one shot in the second half.
Mark Miller and
Adam Cecil combined for four saves in goal to post the shutout for UMHB. Malcolm Framjee had five saves in goal for HPU. The Cru outshot the Yellow Jackets 19-4 in the match.
UMHB will close out the regular season with a pair of ASC home matches next weekend. The Cru will take on Schreiner University in a 3:00 PM start on Friday before hosting Texas Lutheran University for a 3:00 PM kick on Saturday at the Cru Sports Plex.
