Volleyball edged by U.T.-Tyler 3-2

Tyler, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team fought back from a pair of deficits, but the Cru could not put U.T.-Tyler away in a 3-2 loss to the Patriots Saturday evening in Tyler. The loss drops UMHB to 9-20 overall and 3-12 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. U.T.-Tyler improves to on the year with the victory.
            The two teams alternated victories through the first four sets and then U.T.-Tyler hung on in the fifth to post a 25-18, 25-27, 25-22, 22-25, 15-12 victory over the Cru. UMHB hit just .088 as a team, gave up eight service errors and surrendered 10 service aces to the Patriots.

            Tina Miller had a team-high 17 kills for the Cru and Jasmine Harris added nine more. Anissa Garcia posted 26 assists and added a pair of service aces. Alexis Tharp had 17 assists. Erin Maenius topped the Cru with 39 digs and Kaydie Cochran chipped in with 23 digs. Garcia and Tharp also reached double figures in digs with 24 and 10 respectively.

            Danika Waldrep topped U.T.-Tyler with 18 kills and Ashten Waldrep added 23 assists. Whitney Clements also reached double figures with 20 assists. Sarah Smith had a team-best 36 digs and six players reached double figures in that category for the Patriots.

            UMHB will now return home to close out the regular season with a pair of home matches next weekend. The Cru will host Mississippi College for a 6:00 PM start next Friday before facing East Texas Baptist University in a 6:00 PM start on Saturday.
