Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team scored the game-winner 2:41 into overtime as the Cru posted a 2-1 overtime victory over Schreiner University Friday afternoon in Belton. The UMHB women improve to 7-8-1 overall and 6-5-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. The loss drops Schreiner to 6-11 overall and 5-7 in ASC play.
The match was scoreless through the first half and into the second before UMHB finally broke through early in the second half.
Jordan Powers scored off a touch pass from
Lexy Smith just 4:48 into the half to make it 1-0 Cru. Schreiner would tie the match when Amanda Moon scored on a deflection with the assist credited to Maggie Rios in the 73
rd minute. Both teams would have chances in the final minutes, but neither team could net the game-winner in regulation. Then, 2:41 into the extra session
Taylor Bullock redirected a pass from
Kim Wobecky over the goalkeeper's head on a beautiful bending shot into the upper corner of the net to score the game-winner for the UMHB women.
Meredith West finished with one save in goal for the Cru. Genevieve Monroe had five saves in goal for the Mountaineers. UMHB dominated the match everywhere but the scoreboard. The Cru out shot Schreiner 22-5 in the match and held a 10-0 edge in corner kicks. The two teams also combined for 17 fouls and five yellow cards in the match.
UMHB will close out the regular season with a 1:00 PM home match against Texas Lutheran University tomorrow. The Cru needs a win in that match and a Louisiana College win over Concordia Texas to clinch a berth in the ASC Championship Tournament. Tomorrow's match will also be the final home match for Cru seniors
