Women's soccer beats Texas Lutheran 4-1

Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team took control of the match early and the Cru rolled to a 4-1 victory over Texas Lutheran University in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improves to 8-8-1 overall and 7-5-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. Texas Lutheran ends the season with a 7-11 overall record and a 5-8 mark in ASC play.
            The Cru grabbed a 1-0 lead when Lexy Smith scored off a Taylor Bullock assist 7:03 into the match. Bullock would stretch the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal 2:47 before halftime. TLU would cut the lead to 2-1 when Melissa Fernandez scored off an assist from Sarah Black 1:47 into the second half. UMHB would answer when Jordan Powers scored on a penalty kick in the 84th minute and Camryn Powell would add an insurance goal for the Cru in the 86th minute to provide the final margin.

            Erica Harris posted four saves in goal for UMHB and three players combined for eight saves in goal for TLU. The Cru outshot the Bulldogs 19-7 and also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

            The match ended the season for the Cru after the UMHB women fell a half-game short of qualifying for the ASC Championship Tournament. The match also closed out the careers of three UMHB seniors. Megan Jones, Kellee Shearer and Kim Wobecky all played the final matches of their careers on Saturday.
