Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team took an early lead and then used a stirring rally in the fourth set to post a 3-1 victory over East Texas Baptist in the 2010 season finale Saturday night in Belton. The Cru closes out the season with a 10-21 overall record and a 4-13 mark in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops East Texas Baptist to 11-18 overall and 9-8 in the ASC on the season.
UMHB posted a 25-20, 15-25, 25-18, 25-20 victory to close out the year. The Cru built a big early lead in the first set and then held off an ETBU rally to win the set. ETBU dominated the second set and the Cru controlled the third. The Tigers then jumped out to a 17-12 lead in the fourth set before UMHB started to comeback. The Cru would win 13 of the final 16 points of the set to clinch the victory.
Amy Wooten topped ETBU with a match-high 19 kills and Kerri Kalina added nine. Breann Whitaker recorded 37 assists and Nicole Vanderlaan posted 24 digs to lead the Tigers.
The match also closed out the career of UMHB senior libero
Erin Maenius. Maenius is the only student-athlete in Cru history to win ASC Preseason Player of the Year honors three times. She also finishes her career as UMHB's all-time leader in digs.
