Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team will get a chance to avenge its only regular season loss from last season when the Cru hosts Mississippi College in match-up of last year's American Southwest Conference Co-Champions this Saturday. UMHB (4-0, 3-0 ASC) is coming off a 42-38 victory over Louisiana College and the Cru will enter the game ranked 4
th in the country by the American Football Coaches Association and 5
th in the nation by D3football.com. The Choctaws (2-2, 0-2 ASC) are coming off a bye week and Mississippi College is the only ASC team still winless in conference play. But MC also topped the Cru 17-14 last season in Clinton, snapping UMHB's 33-game ASC winning streak and ending a stretch of 10 straight Cru victories in the series. UMHB will enter the game last in the ASC in pass defense and the Cru has given up 28 or more points in each of the last three games. Those are not the typical numbers put up by the Cru defense, and the coaches and players keep working to improve in that area.
“My challenge to everyone involved with this program is to keep getting better,” Cru head coach
Pete Fredenburg said. “There are high expectations with this program and we need to understand that we can't reach our goals if we don't play better. That is what we are facing. MC has some really good skill players and they are well-coached and will have a good plan coming into this ballgame. Our kids need to understand that we will have to play well and give great effort.”
UMHB has also had to come from behind in each of its wins this season, but the Cru is the only team still unbeaten in ASC play. Saturday's game will kick off at 1:00 PM at Tiger Field and it is Homecoming for UMHB. The game will be broadcast locally on KTEM 1400 AM and the Cru athletic department will also offer live video and live statistics during the game. You can access the video stream, a live audio stream and the live stats feed through the UMHB athletic department web site at www.cruathletics.com.
