Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team is no stranger to playing on the road this season but the Cru will finally play the final road game of the 2010 regular season this Saturday in Alpine. UMHB will take on Sul Ross State in a 1:00 PM kickoff on Saturday and the Cru can lock up at least a share of the American Southwest Conference Championship and claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships with a victory over the Lobos. UMHB will enter the game ranked 4
th in the country by the American Football Coaches Association and the Cru has n 8-0 overall record and a 6-0 mark in ASC play. The Lobos are 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the ASC on the year. UMHB has also won all 12 meetings between the two teams, but the Cru is well aware of the fact that the team will have to be ready to play against Sul Ross State.
“We have challenged our guys that we have to go to Alpine and we have to win,” Cru head coach
Pete Fredenburg said. “Anything less than coming off the field with a win and coming off the field feeling good about where this team is will be very detrimental to our football team. All we have to do is throw on the video from La Crosse, or Louisiana College or East Texas Baptist to show what can happen if you don't get ready to play every week. I expect our guys to come out with their heads screwed on straight.”
A win would give UMHB at least a share of the ASC title for the sixth straight year and the eighth time in the last nine seasons. A victory would also clinch a seventh straight appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championships and send the Cru to the postseason for the ninth time in the last ten years. Saturday's game will be broadcast locally on KTEM 1400 AM and you can also follow the broadcast on the Internet through the UMHB athletic department web site. Just point your browser to
