Alpine, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team dominated every phase of the game and the Cru posted a record-setting 76-12 victory over Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon in Alpine. UMHB improves to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The Cru also clinches at least a share of a seventh straight ASC title and UMHB guarantees itself the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships with the win. The loss drops the Lobos to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the ASC on the season.
UMHB grabbed a 7-0 lead on the game's opening possession when Quincy Daniels dashed in from one-yard out 1:49 into the game. Daniels would add an eight-yard TD run to push the lead to 13-0 Cru before Terrance Young hit Jacob Warden with a 33-yard TD pass to cut the gap to 13-6. LiDarral Bailey would run for a four-yard TD and Daniels added a 25-yard scoring run to push the lead to 27-6 UMHB. Bailey then found Damian Davis with a pair of touchdown passes to give the Cru a 41-6 halftime lead.

Stephen Salinas had a three-yard TD scamper, Tracy Cooper returned an interception 70 yards for a score and Leo Gutierrez added a 28-yard scoring run to give UMHB a 62-6 edge. D.J. Monroe then sandwiched a pair of touchdown runs around a Sul Ross State scoring plunge to provide the final margin.

UMHB set a new school scoring record with the 76 points, breaking the previous mark of 73 set against McMurry in 2004. The Cru rolled up 455 yards of total offense while giving up 353 yards to the Lobos. UMHB forced five turnovers to help overcome Sul Ross's 40:39-19:21 edge in time of possession.

Daniels finished with 118 yards and three touchdowns on 17 first-half carries. He needs 25 yards rushing to beak the UMHB and ASC career record held by Justin Bryson at 3,672 yards. Bailey was 4-8 passing for 109 yards and a pair of scores and Davis caught three passes for 89 yards and two scores. Geoff Myles returned four punts for 171 yards and narrowly missed bringing several of those back for touchdowns. Jarred Favorite led UMHB with seven tackles and he added a pair of fumble recoveries.

Young was 13-26 passing for 224 yards and he added 95 rushing yards. Lee Carothers caught five passes for 81 yards. Every UMHB player who made the trip played in the game.

The Cru will now return home to host Texas Lutheran University for a 1:00 PM kickoff next Saturday at Tiger Field. UMHB can claim the outright ASC title and earn just the second 10-0 season in school history with a win in that game.
