UMHB women roll past ETBU in ASC Tournament First Round

Pineville, LA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team dominated the first half and the Cru women never looked back in a 58-26 victory over East Texas Baptist University in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Friday in Pineville, Louisiana. The Cru women improve to 21-5 on the season and advance to the second round of the ASC Tournament for the fourth time in the last five season. The loss ends ETBU's season at 12-14 overall.
            The Cru defense was dominant in the first half, holding the Tigers without a field goal for the first 12:31 of the game and opening up a 15-2 lead. UMHB would stretch the lead to 26-4 before ETBU scored the final three points of the half to give the Cru a 26-7 edge at halftime. The Tigers were just 2-20 from the field in the first half. ETBU would get as close as 16 points in the second half before the Cru stretched it out again and cruised to the easy victory.

            Lindsay Eaton led UMHB with 17 points and Stacie Stephens added nine points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Cru. Kelsey Harris and Karlee Wilson had nine points apiece to lead ETBU. The Tigers out rebounded the Cru 43-37 in the game, but UMHB held ETBU to just 18 per cent shooting in the victory. The Tigers were 1-17 from three-point range while UMHB hit 7-14 from beyond the arc.

            The Cru women will now face McMurry University in a 2:00 PM semifinal tomorrow. The ASC Tournament champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
