Belton, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team put on full pads for the first time in the 2010 fall camp Thursday morning. The Cru went through a spirited, two-hour practice punctuated by hard-hitting inside drills to close the workout. The first day of full contact also gave the coaches a chance to evaluate all of the players together and start to make some decisions about who will make the varsity team this season.
“The enthusiasm and aggressiveness was incredible,” Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. “I think the guys are really competing against each other and have a lot respect for each other. It is great to see how hard they are working and see the fire these guys have in them to get better and improve every day.”

The Cru has 180 players still in camp after the first five days of practice. Five more players are expected to report when classes start on Monday. The team will have another morning practice in full pads this Friday before going through the only two-a-day practices of the fall camp on Saturday. All of those practices will be held at the football practice fields at the Cru Sports Plex.

The Cru kicks off the 2010 season with a 1:00 PM road game at Wisconsin-La Crosse on September 11th. UMHB will then open defense of its American Southwest Conference championship with a 6:00 PM road conference game at McMurry University in Abilene the following Saturday.
