Austin, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team took the lead early and then made it stand up as the Cru held on for a 1-0 win over Huston-Tillotson University Friday night in Austin. The UMHB women even their record at 1-1 on the season with the victory. The loss drops HTU to 2-2-1 on the year.
The two teams were locked in a scoreless tie through the first 21 minutes. UMHB broke through when
Lexy Smith scored off an assist from
Angel Kemmerer in the 22
nd minute. That would be all the offense the Cru would need as
Meredith West and
Erica Harris made it stand up, combining for five saves and the shutout in goal. UMHB also outshot the Rams 17-7 in the victory.
The Cru women will return to action with the start of American Southwest Conference play next weekend. UMHB will take on LeTourneau University in a 2:00 PM start next Friday in Longview. The Cru will then take on East Texas Baptist University in a 2:00 PM match in Marshall next Saturday.
